Oh look at this.
Someone did a really great side-by-side comparison of Christina Aguilera’s new video for “Not Myself Tonight” to Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance”.
Let’s start by saying these are two very talented female pop artists. Truely talented. I think these are two of the most original female pop artists that have come out in the last decade.
So why all of a sudden does it seem the world is pitting them against each other? Whatever happened to GIRL POWER?
Recently, M.I.A accused Rihanna of stealing her ideas for “Rude Boy” too.
Look at the first picture comparison. What is so significantly copied in the video? Could it be the colour red? Well hell, let’s compare every girl in any music video who wears the colour red.
On to the second comparison. A guy sitting on a bed. You know, Gaga wasn’t the first female artist to have a man sitting on a bed.
Third comparison. Multipe Gaga’s/Christina’s. Let’s not forget before Lady Gaga was even famous, Christina Aguilera had the video for “Candyman” which featured three of her.
Fourth comparison. The sunglasses shot. Isn’t this in every single pop/rap music video?
Fifth comparison. FIRE! Seriously? There’s never been fire in anyone else’s video other than Lady GaGa? Where have I been the last 25 years.
Sixth comparison. Who cares. Hand signals. So what? Aren’t they both just voguing anyway?
I’ve really stopped listening to pop music. I just can’t do it anymore. Most of it is such crap. These are two artists in pop music that I think are talented and sometimes, will put on my ipod.
Although I do feel the video is not Christina’s best work - I think she needed something people would talk about. After you’re out of the spotlight for so long, have had a baby and are trying to make a comeback when the indsutry has changed so much, you have to change with it.
Regardless, I’m going to give Christina’s “Bionic” record a chance. I like the fact she’s worked with M.I.A, Goldfrapp, Sia and Le Tigre.
Either way, both of these woman have been influenced by a certain icon in pop music; Madonna - and let’s not forget it.
