There were a lot of lovely dresses last night, but to be honest I thought everyone played it pretty safe. My favourites were definitely the ladies from The Help (Jessica Chastain and Emma Stone). Octavia Specner and Viola Davis were definitely up there, along with the obvious choices, Michelle Williams, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rooney Mara, Rose Byrne, and Jennifer Lopez…although I could have done without the hair. It just looked painful.
Meryl Streep was fittingly dressed in a floor length gold number, but I must say that at the very top of my best dressed list was Christopher Plummer. Why drown in a sea of black and white when you can rock a blue velvet tux. Love that sprightly 82 year-old. God bless that Captain Von Trapp
Mila Kunis looked fresh, young, fit and perfect in this Elie Saab gown. The lace around the bust is phenomenal. The dress is the perfect colour, the hair is perfection and minimal accessories complete the look. Mila has really stepped it up in fashion, and in turn with her recent hit movies, it’s made her a major player in Hollywood.
2. Michelle Williams
Michelle Williams once again shows up looking, well….exactly how I thought she would. Michelle looks beautiful in this Chanel Haute Couture gown, with tones of beading, perfect make-up and an amazing haircut. I know this outfit bored a lot of people – but this is what we have come to expect from Michelle. Anything’s a step up from her Golden Globe disaster. (PS. Remember her yellow Vera Wang gown from years ago…?)
1. Cate Blanchett
Cate Blachette has always been a fashion risk taker and she does it again in her Givenchy Haute Couture gown. The look is a little over the top, full of structure and beading and simply beautiful. She had minimal accessories and stunning hair. This is what fashion is about – taking risks. Cate was the best dressed of the night, I know some of you may fight me on this but I stand by it.
Let’s start by honestly saying I wasn’t that impressed with anyone’s look last night at the Oscars. I did like a few but they weren’t the people I expected to like. The dresses and the hair were boring and for the most part, safe. I know the Oscars are a classy event but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun and stand out. Let’s take a look at my Top 5 Oscars looks. You mightwill be surprised.
1. MILEY CYRUS
Miley looks stunning in her champagne coloured Jenny Packham gown with soft make-up & loose hair. I wouldn’t have expected Miley to be my top look but I think the look is just so pulled together. She was smart in not wearing any jewelry around her neck, the drop earrings are the cuff bracelet are the perfect accessories.
2. RACHEL McADAMS
ONTARIO REPRESENT! I love Rachel McAdams. I think she’s one of the finest actresses out there right now. It doesn’t hurt that I love seeing paparazzi pictures of her riding her bike around Toronto or sitting on the TTC. Rachel looks stunning in a multi-coloured Elie Saab gown. The sky blue and lilac colours in the dress really pick up her perfect complexion and her lipstick is the perfect shade. She looks youthful, comfortable, fun and flirty.
3. DEMI MOORE
Demi Moore looks absoutley stunning in her blush coloured Versace gown. How old is this woman? 50? I know she says she hasn’t have any work done (which I dont believe) but regardless, she looks perfect and like a true icon of Hollywood. I love her loose hair that’s framing her face. Most women seem to opt for the face-lift bun hairstyle which gets pretty boring fast.
4. SANDRA BULLOCK
Oh Sandy. You’re always such a classy and hilarious woman lately. I think that’s why you’re growing on me. If you’ve read my other fashion posts - I’ve never been a huge fan of Sandra Bullocks films or fashion choices. I do however love this look. Sandra knew she was taking Oscar home last night and she decided she wanted to look perfect. From the sleek hair, to the hot pink lips and shimmering beaded gown, Sandy was a statue of perfection.
5. MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL
Best-Supporting Actress nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal opted for the same shade of hot pink lipstick as many this year and I likelove it! Maggie looks artistic in her gown & like the indie princess that she is. I’ve been hearing a lot of rumours of her recent trips to the plastic surgeon’s office but I don’t care as long as she doesn’t go too far. I think she sets herself apart in this gown which really looks like an abstract painting of a high school student.
