Alright, I’m going to be honest. I was super bummed that this movie wasn’t spectacular. I loved Watchmen, even if it didn’t do that well. But all of that aside…there was one thing about Sucker Punch that was amazing. The soundtrack.
Leave it to Mr. Snyder to have one of the best musical tastes, ever. But this soundtrack was like a sucker punch in itself. Once I read the reviews, the first thought that came to my mind was “Shit, what a waste of a Zeppelin song.” Of course referring to the use of When The Levee Breaks in the trailer. See below for the full soundtrack listing. So good. Highlights include an updated version of Bjork’s “Army of Me” and a cover (With Emily Browning and Yoav singing) the Pixies’ “Where is My Mind!” The one song that stood out to me was the frequently covered Beatles song “Tomorrow Never Knows.” This version was done by Alison Mosshart of the Kills/Dead Weather and I hate to say it, but I’m pretty sure I like it better than the Our Lady Peace cover from the Craft Soundtrack. And I love that soundtrack.
Tyler Bates even seemed to actually weave his score in and out of the carefully placed songs nicely, with little distraction.
So the moral of this is, at least see the movie for the soundtrack. The costumes are just a bonus ;)
